The
desk clerk at the delightful Indian Creek Hotel handed me
a room key that dangled from the jaws of a foot-long rubber
alligator. It was one of many small touches that set the tone
for this whimsical, painstakingly restored Deco hotel.

Miami
Beach with its buzzy Art Deco district is the place to spend
a day, but the question is where in the Art Deco district
should one go and which hotel of the zillion around is worth
an overnight stay or at least a visit? The Indian Creek Hotel
is the one that just plain stole my heart . . . 2727 Indian

The
few surveyors who have ferreted out this 1936 Art Deco central
Beach Landmark report it is a "totally film noir great
place" - a careful restoration complete with the original
Norman Bel Geddes-designed furniture has received accolades
from architects and preservationists.
- Zagat
Slightly
north of South beach, is a small hotel where every detail
of 1936 has been meticulously restored. From one the Beach's
first self-operating to period steam trucks in the lobby.
The modest rooms are outfitted in Art Deco furnishing with
pretty tropical printed and all modern amenities. Just one
short block from a good spread of sand the hotel is perfectly
situated from the hectic scenes on South Beach, yet close
enough to walk to most activities. A landscaped pool is a
great place to lounge in the sun. The hotel offers a small
conference center.
